The Colorado Avalanche will need a new back-up goaltender.
On Wednesday night, NHL’s newest franchise the Vegas Golden Knights announced their selections in the Expansion Draft at the NHL Awards.
Picking in order from worst team in the league to the best, meaning their first selection would be from the league’s worst Colorado Avalanche, the Golden Knights selected goaltender Calvin Pickard.
A fan favourite, Pickard was drafted in the 2nd round, 49th overall in the 2010 Draft. Splitting time between the NHL and the AHL the past few years, the 25 year old became a full-time NHL goalie this past season and was anointed the starting role when Semyon Varlamov fell victim to injuries.
Pickard has posted a record of 28-44-6, a 2.77 GAA and .914 save percentage in his tenure in Denver.
All the best and good luck in Vegas, Picks!
